We're introducing some new exciting perks for our members in 2026... Don't miss out.
September marks the transition into fall, making it the ideal time to reorganize your wardrobe. Heavy coats, flannel shirts, and boots require a dedicated space. A pipe clothing rack DIY project provides a heavy-duty solution that easily handles the weight of winter gear while adding a permanent architectural element to your room.
When planning your industrial wardrobe rack, a wall-mounted design is the ultimate choice for stability and space-saving efficiency. By anchoring the framework directly into the wall, you keep your floor space clear while gaining maximum load capacity.
To build a dual-level, wall-mounted clothing rack, you will need the following hardware:

(6x) Flanges (Part A): For anchoring the rack securely to the floor and the wall.
(2x) Side-Out Tees (Part B): Specialty 3-way fittings for the mid-level connections.
(2x) Side-Out Elbows (Part C): Specialty corners for the top level.
(4x) 12-inch Pipes (Part D): The horizontal arms that dictate how far the rack extends from the wall.
(6x) 36-inch Pipes (Part E): The long pipes that act as your vertical uprights and horizontal hanging bars.
Note: This specific build requires exactly 20 pieces of hardware, meaning it instantly qualifies for bulk discount savings.
Because this kit is made of authentic industrial-grade pipe, it is coated in factory oil to prevent rust. You must clean and seal the pipe before use, otherwise, the oil will rub off onto your clothes. Use our PIPE DECOR® Clean and Seal Kit to strip the grease and apply a protective finish. Once dry, you are ready to build.

Step 1: Build the Side Supports Begin by building the left and right side supports on the floor. Connect your vertical 36-inch pipes (E) and horizontal 12-inch pipes (D) using the side-out tees and side-out elbows to form the main "L" shapes of your framework. Attach flanges (A) to the ends of the wall-facing pipes and the bottom floor pipes.
Step 2: Connect the Hanging Bars Connecting the long horizontal hanging bars (E) between two fixed side supports requires a specific tension trick. Hand-tighten the 36-inch pipe into the right-side fitting as hard as you can. Next, line it up with the left-side fitting and begin to unscrew the pipe so that it backs out of the right side and threads into the left side. It will feel slightly loose in the threads, but the connection is completely secure.
Step 3: Mark Your Anchors With a partner, stand the fully assembled wardrobe rack up against the wall. Ensure the vertical legs are perfectly plumb, and use a pencil to mark the holes inside the four wall-facing flanges.
Step 4: Mount to the Wall Move the rack aside and pre-drill holes at your pencil marks for your wall anchors. Finally, move the rack back into position, insert your anchors, and attach the wardrobe to your wall using heavy-duty screws.

An open closet system forces intentional curation. Mastering your fall closet organization requires grouping your fall capsule wardrobe by clothing type and color. Hang heavy wool coats on the top 36-inch bar, and use the lower level for shorter jackets, flannel shirts, or hanging accessory organizers.
Back to school means back to projects. Through September 30th, you can mix and match any sizes or finishes to build the exact layout you need for your space.
