A great dining table needs a spectacular centerpiece. When decorating for a Halloween party or hosting big holiday dinners, flimsy plastic decorations simply do not make a lasting impact. Building a DIY pipe candelabra creates an unforgettable focal point that totally transforms the room. Because it is built from solid steel and iron, this piece survives for decades.
This industrial candle holder is the perfect weekend project to add some architectural edge to a dining room. The best part about steel pipe is that it acts like a giant building set, making it incredibly easy to customize the design. Here is exactly how to assemble a heavy-duty centerpiece that looks incredible for Halloween and easily transitions through the rest of the winter holidays.

To build this unique candelabra, exactly 13 pieces of pipes and fittings are needed. Since this project hits the 10-piece minimum, gathering these parts automatically qualifies for the October bulk discount!
3x Flanges: These serve as the wide, flat platforms to hold the candles securely.
3x 90-Degree Elbows: These fittings turn corners to angle the stems straight up.
1x Tee: The central hub that lays flat on the table to connect the base.
1x 6-Inch Pipe: The tallest vertical stem.
1x 4-Inch Pipe: The medium vertical stem.
2x 3-Inch Pipes: Two of the horizontal base legs.
1x 2-Inch Pipe: The third horizontal base leg.
1x 1-Inch Pipe: The shortest vertical stem.

Assembling this centerpiece is incredibly easy. No special tools, welding, or messy glue are required. The entire structure simply twists together by hand.
Step 1: Build the Tripod Base Start by creating a rock-solid foundation that rests directly on the table. Lay the Tee fitting flat on the work surface. Thread the 2-inch pipe into the left side of the Tee, and one 3-inch pipe into the right side. Then, thread the remaining 3-inch pipe into the center opening to create a unique, asymmetrical shape. Twist a 90-degree elbow onto the open ends of all three pipes, making sure all three elbows are pointing straight up toward the ceiling. This creates a perfectly flat, tripod-style base that will not rock or tip over.
Step 2: Add the Stems Now it is time to build the height. Thread the tallest 6-inch pipe directly into one of the upward-facing elbows. Next, thread the 4-inch pipe into the second elbow. Finally, thread the tiny 1-inch pipe into the last elbow. This creates a beautiful, staggered cluster of three stems at varying heights.
Step 3: Attach the Candle Cups To give thick white pillar candles a flat, secure place to sit, attach the three flanges to the tops of the vertical pipes. Once all three cups are attached, place the heavy candelabra on a flat surface and make tiny adjustments to the threads until the candle platforms are perfectly level.

The metal finish completely changes the vibe of the build. Pipe hardware comes in a few different tones, making it easy to match any dining room.
Black Iron for a Gothic Look Authentic black iron is the undisputed king of gothic table decor. It has a dark, charcoal finish that absorbs light. When a warm candle flame flickers against dark iron, it creates heavy, moody shadows. This is the absolute best choice for a spooky Halloween setup.
Brass for a Warm Holiday Glow To create a softer, more traditional holiday table, swap the black iron for brass. Brass has a bright, golden-yellow tone. It reflects the candlelight beautifully, creating a warm, inviting glow that pairs perfectly with fine china.
Mixing fire and heavy metal requires a little bit of common sense. Follow these quick guidelines to keep the table safe:
Make it Stable: Authentic iron is heavy. Make sure every single joint is tightened down hard so the vertical stems do not lean or swing under the weight of the candles.
Manage the Wax: Hot wax will eventually run down the sides of the candles. While dried wax looks awesome dripping down black iron, it can easily ruin a nice wood dining table. Place small glass drip trays under the candles, or sit the whole candelabra on a decorative metal tray to catch the mess.
Consider LED Alternatives: If kids or pets are running around, real fire might not be the best idea. High-quality LED pillar candles look incredibly realistic and give the exact same moody glow without the fire hazard.
Watch the Decor: Keep flammable materials away from the flames. Stretching fake cobwebs around the base looks amazing, but make sure the webs stay far below the actual candle wicks.
The absolute best thing about an industrial candle holder is that it never has to be packed away in a storage box. By simply swapping out the accessories around it, this piece effortlessly transitions through every major holiday.
Halloween Styling For the ultimate Halloween centerpiece, lean into the spooky, dark academia vibe. Place the black iron candelabra on a bare, dark wood table. Use thick white pillar candles to create a stark contrast against the dark metal. Surround the base with stretched fake cobwebs and a vintage wooden wand to complete the haunted look.
Thanksgiving Styling When November arrives, clear away the cobwebs. Slide a warm, burnt-orange table runner under the base. Surround the heavy iron with small organic elements like miniature white pumpkins and fallen autumn leaves. Swap the stark white candles for warm beeswax to bring earthy warmth to a Thanksgiving feast.

Christmas and Winter Styling As the weather gets freezing, weave fresh pine garlands directly through the base of the candelabra. Add a few small silver or brass ornaments nestled into the greenery. Swap the candles to a festive red or a crisp snowy white. The mix of raw steel, fresh green pine, and bright red accents creates a beautiful winter wonderland right on the dining table.
Building a custom centerpiece is an incredibly rewarding project that yields a high-end, permanent piece of home decor. Because it only takes a few minutes to twist together, it is the perfect way to upgrade the dining room before holiday guests arrive.
