Fall is the perfect time to clean out the garage and set up storage that actually works. Real steel pipes and fittings from PIPE DECOR® make tough, good-looking systems that you can size to your space. Build wall shelves, tool organizers, bike hooks, and a mobile utility cart, then head into winter with everything off the floor and easy to find.
Strength you can trust. Steel pipes handle heavy loads when installed into studs.
Modular and customizable. Cut or swap lengths to fit tight corners, long walls, or odd nooks.
Clean, industrial look. Pair with wood for a warm, workshop feel.
Weather aware. Use galvanized pipe in damp garages, or clean and seal black steel for protection.
Tools you will use: tape measure, stud finder, level, drill/driver, wood screws, anchors for masonry, pipe wrench, safety gear.

Keep bins and paint cans off the floor with a simple pipe shelving system.

Clear the floor and protect your wheels with a sturdy pipe system.
Option A: Horizontal wall rack
Two flanges and short pipes spaced to match your bike’s frame.
Cover ends with caps and wrap with grip tape to protect paint.
Option B: Overhead hanging rail
Two ceiling-mounted flanges tied into joists.
A single pipe with S-hooks or webbing straps for multiple bikes.
Install tips
Anchor into studs or joists only.
Check strap and hook ratings, then leave extra capacity for safety.
Add a small pipe shelf under the rack for helmets and lights.

A mobile cart keeps tools and cleaning supplies close to the job and parked neatly when you are done.
Parts list
Four flanges for shelf corners
Tees and 90° elbows for the frame
Straight pipes for uprights and crossbars
Two or three wood shelves
Four locking casters
How to build
Build the lower rectangle with elbows, tees, and flanges, then add casters.
Thread uprights into the corners and lock them with tees where the middle shelf will sit.
Add the top frame and tighten.
Screw wood shelves to the flanges.
Pro tips
Add a towel bar by threading a short pipe between two tees on the side.
Use a rear crossbar for extra rigidity if you store heavy liquids.
Measure twice. Sketch your wall and list the parts before you shop.
Choose the right finish. Galvanized for moisture, sealed black steel for rich color.
Prep metal. Wipe pipes with degreaser, dry thoroughly, then seal to resist rust and fingerprints.
Load smart. Shelves feel stronger when fastened into every stud they cross.
