How to Clean Your Pipe Decor
Maintaining your furniture is key to making sure it lasts for years to come. With PIPE DECOR furniture kits, that means two important steps: first the initial clean and seal process, then regular upkeep. Fortunately, it’s really easy to clean and seal your PIPE DECOR kits before using them, and it’s even easier to keep them clean long-term. Here’s what you need to know!
How to Clean and Seal Your Pipe Kits
While our brass, galvanized, and Noir lines come project-ready, our black steel pipes and iron fittings are coated in a light, protective oil during transit to prevent rusting. These pieces should be cleaned and sealed before use in order to keep them rust-free for a lifetime.
It only takes three simple steps. You will need:
- Regular degreasing dish soap
- Washcloths
- Finishing wax OR polyurethane finishing spray (matte or satin)
- Gloves (optional)
Cleaning and Sealing Instructions
- Wash your pipes and fittings with warm water and dish soap until the oil is completely removed.
- Wipe the pipes with a dry washcloth and wait until the pipes are completely dry. The pipes MUST be completely dry before you begin the sealing process.
-
A) If using polyurethane spray: Spray each dry pipe and fitting with a polyurethane matte or satin finishing spray and let it dry before building the kit.
B) If using finishing wax: Coat each dry pipe with a finishing wax. Wait for 20 minutes, then polish the pipe with a dry washcloth by wiping them down. Faster wiping will result in a shinier finish.
After these steps are complete, your pipes are ready for assembly!
How to Keep Your Pipe Furniture Clean
Whether you’ve purchased wood from our RESTORE line or one of our pipe kits, the good news is that everything we have to offer isn't hard to keep clean. Simply wipe down the surface with a damp cloth to remove any dust or marks. If needed, you can also use a gentle dish soap to remove stubborn spots.
Overall, PIPE DECOR furniture is easy to clean, seal, and maintain over time. As long as you wipe up spills as soon as they happen, you shouldn’t have any problem keeping your DIY pieces looking like new for years to come!
